Mary Douglas Nicol Leakey [1913-1996]
Admittedly, the English archaeologist and paleontologist Mary Douglas Nicol really began her professional career after meeting her future husband Louis Leakey in 1933. However, it was Mary Leakey, not Louis, who found the Zinjanthropus skull (later renamed Australopithecus), and it was Mary Leakey who in 1972 found the famous Laetoli footprints.
