The "logo" of my blog "to trans-fer"

Some people may question what is the meaning of the image below the general definition of the blog.
Well, it is a sketch of the general plan of the walled structures exposed by us in the top of the prehistoric site of Castanheiro do Vento (Foz Côa, Portugal).
That means a lot for us: 9 years of intensive field work are condensed in that very simple image.

Places like this were meeting points, c. 4.500 years ago. Places of communication, monumental sites whose building was a way of actively creating socialities.
Spots in a taskscape, to use a term coined by Tim Ingold.
Sites of transference, of fusion of individual experiences through communicative interaction.

The archaeological team of Castanheiro do Vento is composed by myself, João Muralha, Gonçalo Velho, Ana Vale. We have the collaboration of António Sá Coixão, Leonor Pereira, Ângela Carneiro, and many others. British colleagues have been there too, but we hope that in the future Castanheiro do Vento becomes what it deserves: a meeting point again.
This time, 4.500 years later, a congregation "locus" to study in common prehistoric monumental architectures.

So as you see, archaeological sites have a present, a past and, if we really prize them, a future, too. Like people. Like any person, an archaeological site may be a focus for emotive and interested attention.
