What is the Lejre Research Grant?
Lejre Experimental Centre is a research institution which is open to the public. Through practical experiments, we are working on expanding the knowledge about prehistoric and historic periods. The purpose is to lay the groundwork for interpretation and understanding of past and present. The research experiments are and integrated part of our presentation to the public.
Every year the Centre has a Research Grant of DKK 150,000 for carrying out practical, archaeological experiments. Portions of the grant are given to researchers and students following application to Lejre Experimental Centre.
A part of the Grant is assigned for experiments working within a certain topic. The rest of the Grant is open for experiments working with other topics and problems.
Topic 2008: Textile and fabric
In 2008 Lejre Experimental Centre will focus on textile and fabric through history - from nettle fibres to embroidery! A part fo the Research Grant will therefore be assigned to support experiments within this topic.
These experiments will if possible be assempled in one week and be part of an integrated workshop session with lectures, activities and exchange of knowledge.
Lejre Experimental Centre invites textile researchers and craftsmen from both Denmark and abroad.
The session will take place in July/August 2008.
