The post-industrial society has created two ways, two opposite and complementary places or destinies “to put order” into the territory and “to get rid” of obsolete objects:
or to recycle them as heritage, as museum (which may be a park or an entire landscape)
or to bury the waste inland or in the sea.
Both are part and parcel of the same:
that which is to be seen, excavated if necessary, and then exposed as a monument;
and that which is the rubbish, the refuse, which is to be hidden in a deep excavated hole, taken out of sight, as the repressed of the production/consumption machine.
