CENTENÁRIO DO NASCIMENTO DE OLIVIER MESSIAEN (1908-1992)

A abrir as comemorações do centenário do nascimento de Olivier Messiaen, a Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, dirigida por Julia Jones, interpreta uma das maiores obras-primas do século XX – Turangalîla-Symphonie.

Turangalîla-Symphonie, obra colossal também pela sua dimensão orquestral, foi composta entre 1946 e 1948 por encomenda de Serge Koussevitzky para a Orquestra Sinfónica de Boston. A estreia foi dirigida pelo ainda jovem maestro Leonard Bernstein, em Bóston, um ano após Messiaen ter concluído a composição. O título da obra nasceu apenas em 1948. Turangalîla resulta da aglutinação de duas palavras do sânscrito [turanga + lîla] correspondendo assim à descrição de Messiaen quando se referia à sua obra, “Uma canção de amor”.
Em Turangalîla, Messiaen introduz as Ondes Martenot, instrumento electrónico que incluiu regularmente na sua criação musical.

Já tinha ouvido extractos no site de Bob Dylan, mas hoje lá tirei uma horita à vida de escravo que levo, e fui comprá-lo. É mais um grande disco deste artista maior da arte pop do nosso tempo. Um grande poeta pop, seja o que for que isso signifique!

Ouvindo "coisas" destas uma pessoa passa do entretenimento a algo de diferente.

A interpretação é da Academia Antigua de la Universidad de Salamanca, com Coro de Câmara, tudo dirigido por Bernardo García-Bernalt.
Foi gravado em 2002.
O autor da pauta é Juan de Aragués (séc. XVIII).
